Boogie Down Productions è stato un gruppo hip hop statunitense attivo tra gli anni '80 e '90, considerato uno dei pionieri del hardcore rap e dell'hip hop politico. Il gruppo era guidato dal rapper KRS-One (Lawrence Krisna Parker), noto per le sue rime intellettuali e il suo impegno sociale. Il loro album di debutto, *Criminal Minded* (1987), è considerato un classico del genere hardcore rap, caratterizzato da testi aggressivi e ritmi veloci. Purtroppo, l'album fu presto oscurato dalla tragedia: DJ Scott La Rock, membro chiave del gruppo, fu assassinato a soli 20 anni durante una disputa tra gang. La morte di La Rock segnò profondamente KRS-One e il gruppo, che continuò ad incidere album fino agli anni '90, mantenendo sempre un forte impegno sociale nelle loro canzoni. Tra i brani più rappresentativi del gruppo ricordiamo *The Bridge Is Over*, *Stop the Violence* e *Sound of da Police*.

Il 28 aprile 1986 la cantante Graziella Franchini, in arte Lolita, veniva ritrovata esanime e sfigurata nella camera del residence di Lamezia Terme in cui viveva ormai da un pò di tempo. L'omicidio è rimasto privo di colpevoli.
