Grandmaster Flash, pseudonimo di Joseph Robert Saddler, è un disc jockey barbadiano naturalizzato statunitense considerato uno dei padri fondatori della musica hip hop. Nato a Barbados nel 1958, si trasferì negli Stati Uniti all'età di sette anni e iniziò la sua carriera musicale nei club di New York alla fine degli anni '70. Flash è noto per aver inventato diverse tecniche di scratch e mix come cutting, backspinning e punch-praising, che hanno rivoluzionato il DJing e influenzato generazioni di artisti hip hop. Tra i suoi brani più rappresentativi figurano "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel", "Scorpio" e "Superrappin". Nel 1980 formò i Furious Five, con cui ottenne un successo internazionale grazie al brano "The Message", considerato da molti il primo vero inno del rap. Nel corso della sua carriera ha collaborato con artisti di spicco come The Sugarhill Gang, Run-DMC e LL Cool J. Grandmaster Flash è stato introdotto nella Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nel 2007.
