James Brown (Augusta, Georgia, 3 maggio 1933 – Atlanta, Georgia, 25 dicembre 2006) è stato un cantante, compositore e musicista statunitense, considerato il «Re del Soul» per la sua influenza rivoluzionaria sulla musica popolare. Brown ha iniziato la sua carriera negli anni '50 come leader di una band rhythm and blues, combinando elementi di funk, jazz e gospel. Il suo stile energico e innovativo, caratterizzato da un ritmo incalzante e testi spesso politici, ha influenzato generazioni di artisti, dalla musica soul al hip hop. Tra i suoi brani più famosi figurano "Sex Machine", "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine", "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" e "I Got You (I Feel Good)". Brown ha venduto oltre 100 milioni di dischi in tutto il mondo, ricevendo numerosi premi e riconoscimenti.
