A limousine
To the infusion suite
Down a rainy street
Early dawn
Eyes that sweep
Skin that feels
And the swish of wheels
And the radio
All the feeling we shared on the car ride
All the fear that was there on the other side
All the souls that were spared
Oh, and those that we left out to die
You fell from the nest
In a suicide vest
They tapped a decree
From their side of the screen
It's Father's Day
For the father in me
Oh, bachelor prince
Oh, brain on two feet
Oh, master of wandering meat
All ghost-faced in oxidised green
Increasingly inward-involved
And cut off from the scene
And you call through the copper
Leak through a slug in your lung
The day wasted away
TV sang its lonely song
Our dream was born dead
We thought it was shared
We thought that it ran
Laughing 'cross the beach
Lit by shine of the sea
Made for you and for me
Ah, but we were deceived
Because what was the dream?
It was wired to explode in the city square
It was drugs they dropped into your drink
It was trade, it was doubt
It was never about what you think
And we walked through the ballpark
All the fans were going home
The night breathed like a dream
The air sung like a song
Raised from the dead
In the Benz back seat
I encountered the magazine king
He was wearing that old high school ring
Ah, to see the aggressor with clarity
In the early-morning obliviated light
Ah, to hear his confederates whisper
"Just don't even fight"
"Ah, well met, well met, well met" said he
"Now you're part of the parasite family
And I wouldn't expect no more charity
There are screams in the street
Though it seems you can sleep through the night"
I bit my nails until blood
Walked alone with my phone
It was pissing down rain
I was more than alone
With the agency creation has gifted me
What am I gonna do with my poor body
Ah, but take it and use it
And place it upon some frontline?
Maker of light
You were made of light
Oh, maker of love
You are made of love
Oh, maker of light
You were made of light, made of light
Oh, maker of love
You are made of love
Oh, maker of light
You were made of light, made of light, made of light
Oh, maker of love
To be made of love
Il testo THE DREAM AND THE LIGHT degli OKKERVIL RIVER è presente anche nell'album In the rainbow rain (2018)
