Mark Freuder Knopfler (nacque il 12 agosto 1949) è un cantautore, chitarrista, compositore e produttore discografico britannico. Noto per la sua tecnica di chitarra raffinata e le melodie memorabili, ha raggiunto fama internazionale come leader del gruppo Dire Straits, con cui ha venduto oltre 120 milioni di dischi in tutto il mondo. Knopfler è considerato uno dei chitarristi più influenti della storia del rock, apprezzato per la sua capacità di creare atmosfere evocative e intricate attraverso l'uso di tecniche fingerpicking e arpeggi. Dopo lo scioglimento dei Dire Straits nel 1995, Knopfler ha intrapreso una carriera da solista di grande successo, pubblicando album come "Sailing to Philadelphia" (1999) e "Get Lucky" (2007). Ha anche composto colonne sonore per film come "Local Hero" (1983), "The Princess Bride" (1987) e "Cal". Tra i brani più famosi di Knopfler figurano "Sultans of Swing", "Money for Nothing", "Romeo and Juliet" e "Brothers in Arms".
"Sultans Of Swing" è una canzone simbolo dei Dire Straits, con quella chitarra sobria, ma terribilmente incisiva. Dietro il titolo del brano c'è una storia e oggi proveremo a raccontarla.
