R.E.M. è stata una band rock americana formatasi ad Athens, in Georgia, nel 1980. Considerati uno dei gruppi più influenti nella formazione dell'alternative rock e dell'indie, R.E.M. sono diventati uno dei gruppi rock più grandi al mondo nei primi anni '90. Inizialmente hanno attirato un seguito underground, ma la loro popolarità è poi sbocciata in un successo mainstream, passando da locali affollati a stadi sportivi e festival durante una carriera che ha attraversato tre decenni. Il gruppo era composto da Michael Stipe (voce), Peter Buck (chitarra), Mike Mills (basso) e Bill Berry (batteria). R.E.M. è nota per il suo sound caratteristico, un mix di melodie orecchiabili, testi poetici e arrangiamenti sperimentali. Alcuni dei loro brani più rappresentativi includono "Losing My Religion", "Everybody Hurts", "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" e "The One I Love".
