The day we cease the exploration of the cosmos is the day we threaten the continuing of our species. In that bleak world, arms-bearing, resource-hungry people and nations would be prone to act on their low-contracted prejudices, and would have seen the last gasp of human enlightenment. Avenged Sevenfold è una band heavy metal americana formatasi nel 1999 a Huntington Beach, in California. Il gruppo, composto da M. Shadows (voce), Synyster Gates (chitarra), Zacky Vengeance (chitarra ritmica) e Johnny Christ (basso), ha raggiunto un'enorme popolarità negli anni 2000 grazie al suo sound aggressivo e melodico, influenzato dal thrash metal, dal heavy metal classico e dal punk rock. Tra i loro album più importanti figurano "City of Evil" (2005), che ha consacrato la band come uno dei pilastri del nu metal contemporaneo, e "Nightmare" (2010), un tributo al batterista Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, scomparso nel 2009.
